Dancing on Stage Flooring

Like other types of dance floors or portable flooring options, stage dance floors can be made up of many different materials. The type of material used in the construction of a stage floor is often determined by the dominant use of the space, whether it is for dance, theatre, music shows, or some other creative endeavor. Another major consideration that goes into the construction of a stage floor is whether or not the stage will be moved. If a stage is expected to be portable, especially one that is used on a tour of some type, it will be made of different materials than one which is put in one place permanently.

A permanent stage floor is very likely to be made of hardwood, suspended over a pit or trap door area which can be used during a dramatic production or for storage. The hardwood flooring is held in place by several large braces which keep the floor from coming apart, collapsing, or breaking under the continued, prolonged use of the space. Hardwood is often used for these permanent stages because it not only looks nice and lasts for a long time, its use is also conducive to many different types of uses or productions, allowing the facility to be lenient in what types of productions they have, not limited by the flooring.

Another type of stage flooring is vinyl. Vinyl tiles are extremely resilient and resist wear and tear. They can also be easily replaced if one tile is destroyed or ruined in some way rather than a hardwood floor where an entire section would have to be pulled up. Vinyl stage floors can be used in both permanent stages as well as in travelling stages. Because of the light weight of the vinyl tiles and their resiliency, the stage can easily be taken apart, transported, and rebuilt without an excessive amount of money invested in the transport or assembly of the stage. Vinyl stage floor options are often a favorite of travelling actors and dance teams because of their resemblance to hardwood without the high cost of transporting the much heavier, larger wood panels.

A third type of stage flooring is the metal stage. Metal stages are often used by travelling musicians as they can be taken apart and put back together very quickly night after night without risking anything concerning the safety of the stage. These stages are especially a favorite of anyone who chooses to use pyrotechnics during their stage show as the pyrotechnics can very often be housed in the stage and lit from there without the risk of catching the stage on fire. The metal stages also offer a durable surface for holding the weight of many different people at one time as well as various instruments, lights, and electronic equipment. The metal stages can be used in conjunction with other types of stage flooring such as wood, vinyl, LED flooring, Plexiglas, and anything else that your vast imagination can conjure to make the metal stage the ultimate in customizable stage dance floors.
